6th & 7th September: Northumberland

I did go north briefly from North Yorkshire to meet up with Sandy & Rita who were spending the week in a cottage in Newtonn, on the Northumbrian coast between Beadnell and Craster.

I had a chance to revisit some of my favourite places: Lindisfarne Castle, remodelled by Lutyens and filmed in one of Polanski’s greatest films, Cul de Sac.

In the evening we walked down to the pub at Low Newton.  It brews its  own beer which is very nice, just a shame that the people behind the bar are rude and unhelpful.

The following day we got the bus to Craster  and walked back along the coast past Dunstanburgh Castle, which is in my top ten of castles.

Simon & I once spent a memorable Christmas in a cottage near Rothbury (which we almost didn’t get to because of the snow)  and on Christmas Day we walked along this shore , memorable and Santa Clause waved at us as he flew overhead in a helicopter.
