15th October Wareham

021 Lashings of ginger beer….

I had to move away from Corfe because the campsite was fully booked over the weekend but I found a campsite outside Wareham which, despite the static caravans, was friendly and accommodating.

Wareham has a cinema.  However there was a Film festival so it was too complicated to go to the flicks.  The films were being shown all around the area in various venues and if they do it every year and if one is mobile – and organised – this might be one to watch and do.  I do miss having an accessible good selection of film venues almost more than theatre.

I wonder how many Australians are descended from felons who injured Dorset bridges.

My dad worked for Philips Scott and Turner: Milk of Magnesia, Andrews Liver Salts and California Syrup of Figs.  My sister and I used to have trips around the factory and came away with lots of free samples.  The competition was who held out the longest after drinking the samples.  I always lost.

I cycled to Arne – you see more by bike.

13th October Part 2 Swanage to Corfe

059 Swanage

058 Swanage

I spent a month in Swanage last January.  The railway, the library and the Mowlem Cinema were all closed.  There were gales and frost.  But I had some good walks and a good time.

It was good to find a lovely day, the railway working  and to walk back to Corfe  and have the views – the last time I did this it was in heavy rain so saw nothing.

I sat on a stile here and had my lunch which I had bought in nice shops in Swanage.  There is a particularly good deli with scrumptious chocolate and ginger brownies.  I shared just a little bit with a nice horse which watched me having my lunch and it was very surprised when the ginger kicked in.

While I walked along the ridge the steam trains chugged back and forth along the valley.

I went to one of the pubs for my evening meal (nothing exciting to report) and walked back to the camp site in the dark;  was pleased that I was able to find my way without any problems.

13th October Corfe Part 1

After my awning experience with Ella I went to Corfe.  It was mid-week so I could get a place in the camp site.  Camping logistics, south of the Border, are that one HAS to book for somewhere nice for weekends, so one has to plan and be organised…..

So not being forward thinking I had to “do” Corfe mid-week.  Not a problem - the weather was just brilliant.

The camp site  - I say camp site but it is for caravans, campervans and motorhomes only – real campers are not allowed and have to go elsewhere.; this is an increasing phenomenon.  Anyway the camp site is a couple of miles west of Corfe.  I walked into Corfe in the morning.

12th October Wimborne

Ella and I also went to Wimborne.  There was a museum and a model village which both looked worth a visit but we couldn’t go into them because of the dogs.  So I went back to have a look.

The model village – Wimborne in the ‘50s – was wonderful.
