31 May Tiree (Part 2)

I cycled to Hynish, at the west end of Tiree, which I thought, with my love for industrial archaeology, was brilliant.

Skerryvore lighthouse (built by Alan Stevenson) is 11 miles from Tiree.  To build it (and to service it) he built a harbour but the only place he could build the harbour was liable to silt up so he built a flushing system to flush the silt out.  This was done circa 1844 and is still all there, including the flushing system but am not sure if it still works.  There is also all the necessary accommodation including stables, walled gardens, and semaphore/signal station.  And the lighthouse was just about visible:
