26 May Corryvreckan whirlpool from Seil Island

Seil Island is linked to the mainland by the Bridge over the Atlantic which sounds very grand and modern but is narrow and high (to allow vessels underneath) and was constructed in 1792

This area of Scotland is famous for its slate quarrying.  The quarry on Seil Island was excavated to 250 feet below sea level and, in 1881, a heavy sea broke through at night and 240 families lost their livelihood

Another boat trip, this time to the whirlpool between the Isles of Jura and Scarba. The weather was calm and the tides were such that the whirlpool wasn’t whirling much but it wasn’t disappointing because there was a school of porpoises feeding in it and we were able to watch them from a reasonably steady boat.
