This was an excellent day.
The boat for the day:
Light refraction giving the appearance of floating islands: “In summer, the sea is often rather warmer than the air. This can produce a layer of low density air above the sea and thus a ray from the sky passing very close to and nearly parallel with the sea can bend concave-up, so that a layer of sky below the island is seen and the island seems to be floating in the air.”
The Dutchman’s Cap (Bac Mòr), Treshnish
We landed on Staffa before the main hoards arrived and were able to observe these lovely Black Guillemots – note their lovely red feet and they have lovely red mouths too but these are not on display.
Iona, from Staffa – the abbey is clear at the left hand end
By which time the hoards had arrived and I was delighted with the anachronism of this group of Chinese, picking on pots of noodles (maybe not Pot Noodles) and using chopsticks
View of the Radar station on Tiree in the background
We’ve landed on Lunga and the magic begins – see next episode
