11 August: (Part 1 of 4 of the last blog in August)

Wooler on a wet morning.  The ducks are sheltering under the Van:

001

I went off to the National Trust property at Wallington

At least I got out of the rain.

Bell Scott (a pre-raph artist) had painted a series of pictures for the central hall which are great – the most famous one is “showing the world what the Northumbrians could do with iron and coal”

006

There is also King Egfrid landing on the Farnes and making Cuthbert a Bishop, the Romans building a wall, the Danes sacking the Northumbrian coast, Grace Darling rescuing the crew of the Forfarshire, the death of Bede and others..and the flowers around the canvases are painted by other artists including Ruskin

  1. The boys bought a National Trust Top Trumps deck at Trelissick today and were very pleased to find the Wallington griffin heads.
