I spent the night at a camp site near Culloden.
The following day I headed off to Fort George, another fort built after the 1715 uprising. I had seen Fort George last year from the campsite I had stayed in at Fortrose on the other side of the Beauly Firth where I had watched dolphins hunting salmon. It had looked quite little and I didn’t think it would take long to visit it. I was wrong on both counts.
It is big, it is interesting, it has been used as a garrison continuously since it was commissioned in 1727.
And this is before you get into the fort proper.
…these haven’t been in continuous use since 1727.

After Fort George I drove over to Reiff. Again last year I had driven down from Durness, stopping off to visit Handa Island but missing out Coigach area which includes Achiltibuie and the Summer Isles. Dave, Linda, Annie and Phil were staying in a house in Reiff and had invited me to join them.
From 5 o’clock to 11 o’clock
Evening, the Summer Isles
