13th June (Wednesday)–Trip to Colonsay

I’d investigated taking the Van to Colonsay and was told it couldn’t be done.  So was please when Jim & Helen suggested a day trip.  The only day of the week you can do it is on a Wednesday as that is the only day the ship goes, from Port Askaig) and comes back on the same day – on its way to Oban (and back).  The locals stay on board and have a couple of hours in the Metropolis, coming back armed with boxes containing lawn mowers, microwave ovens, etc.

Colonsay lies to the north of Islay and Jura, population 110.  There is a Community development company and a big estate.  Tourists are encouraged but controlled.  Rhododendron ponticum is being eradicated.

The film “I know where I’m going”, about the fictional "Isle of Kiloran" was based on Colonsay.  It was shot mostly on Mull,
